Essential Workers - CARES Child Care Scholarships

New York State is using a portion of the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (the “CARES Act”) funds to provide child care to income eligible essential workers at no cost.We applaud this action by the Cuomo Administration and the Office of Children and Family Services.

  • Essential workers using a regulated child care provider will receive a scholarship for the cost of care as long as the funds to support it are available. In order to qualify, families must have an adjusted gross income at or below 300% of the federal poverty level. For a family of four that equals an annual income of $78,600.

  • All licensed and regulated providers who are caring for essential workers are able to participate in this new program.Provider Application

  • If an essential worker is in need of child care, we will use the information they provide to establish that they are an essential employee, enroll them in the CARES Child Care Scholarship, and to ensure that the child care program is paid. Link to the scholarship Application: Parent Application

  • Financial assistance to help essential workers access child care is a mechanism to ensure that the economy keeps functioning. The children of these vital workers must be kept safe, healthy and learning so that their parents can continue their crucial work during this pandemic.
