There is a new movement underway in NY State that seeks to raise community awareness about the importance of affordable and high quality child care for all families. Making sure small children are cared for in a safe and healthy environment while their parents are at work or school is certainly a priority. But it is not enough. We want and need young children to thrive, and that is much more likely to occur when a young child’s day is filled with Quality. When our children thrive, our communities thrive.
From the moment children are born, they are learning. During the first 3 years a child’s brain is bursting, growing at the rate of 700 neural connections per second! During the first 4 years of life 85% of their brain architecture is completed! Study after study has shown that what happens during these first few years will have a profound impact on the rest of that child’s life.
The United to Promote Quality campaign is just the first phase of the state-wide Quality Investments for Children (QIC) initiative, asking the community to learn more, act more, and invest more in Quality.
The campaign is a partnership effort between the Early Care & Learning Council (ECLC) and the network of Child Care Resource & Referral (CCR&R) agencies serving as quality resource centers throughout the state.
